Well eventually intelligence grew larger and they stopped using their absolute massive size to kill animals or kill other males to estabilish domiance or taking a valubale like a women or food. I can also add that the main tactic was actually chasing animals for a long time over long periods until it got exhausted/collapsed and it was safe to throw spears and shit. So our main advantage was running long distances. And yeah brains came into play too setting us apart to use tools, combined with opposable thumbs it was too op.
