Here in brazil niggas used to talk about soccer 24/7 since ever, since like the 1940s and 1950s. but since the pandemic (because it hit us harder than almost every other country including the USA) most crowd events have gotten way less popular including soccer and carnival, the hallmarks of "brazilian culture"
