I grew up poor, my dad left my mother for a few years, so we struggled financially for a few years. It was tough, I was only 10 and didn't really understand what was going on, but just knew my mum was not in the greatest of moods. I kept a lot of my issues to myself and would be bullied in school for being poor, even to the point where a few teachers would laugh at me being mocked by other students. It sucked, I never really told anyone since I didn't want to appear like a victim/weak in front of my siblings and knew it would just stress/upset my mum further since she was already having a rough time.
I only had 1 teacher who really stood up for me, for a 10 year old, he seemed like a hero to me. He always helped me out and would tell me to keep my head up. Kids would call me ugly too, but he told me it wasn't true.
Tbh I took up a teaching job for a year teaching kids part time when I was 18, and whenever I saw bullying I stood up for the little guy, I'd think of my 10 year old self and get very angry at students if they ever bullied. If I heard students being made fun of for being poor, I'd tell them off and often tell the main teacher to send the student out for bullying.
I improved a few kids lives during my teaching job, I made a few kids go from set 3 to set 2, and most of the students in my class had respected me. I was never overly strict and would allow them to chew gum and chit chat as long as they did enough work. I just had a 0 tolerance to bullying.
