Ugly = actually repulsive and unpleasant to look at, makes bad first impressions in all interactions with people and gets treated poorly by the general population, not just in the dating scene

Unattractive = doesn't register in the sexual radar of people, no sex appeal, obviously will have physical flaws but it's nothing to gawk at, invisible to women but can still function socially and be treated like a human

Ok now that I've laid it out you can identify which one you fit into

Taken literally, your definitions are correct, but I feel like there's an argument to be made that, in certain contexts, being called unattractive is actually worse than being called ugly.

The word ugly is far stronger, and its use is therefore contingent on its user feeling an emotion strongly enough. I mean, people call genuinely attractive people ugly all the time. Basically, there's a higher potential for someone being irrational when they use the word and, of course, by extension, untrustworthy.

But the word unattractive is far more serious, generally, so it's typically used in contexts where someone's trying to be precise. Sure, it's a nicer alternative to ugly, but I think it's damning that, in the vast majority of cases, if someone calls you unattractive, they're being honest and serious.

I mean they can be interchangeable and sometimes people will use the term unattractive for very ugly people because it sounds less harsh, most people won't care enough to make that distinction but still there's that difference if we're being specific

Well, yeah, it can be context-dependent, as was my point, but obviously, I do agree, being called ugly is far worse.

I'm not attractive
