Do Americans have to deal with gypsies?

In the uk, everyone Ive spoken to has a bad experience with them, stealing, random assaults, dine and dashing, generally scum. When people from the uk post about them it comments are flooded with Americans defending them, are they just not a problem over there (I’m speaking mainly of Irish ones).
