Do braces cause maxillary recession if teeth aren't extracted?

The title basically says it all. If someone undergoes orthodontic therapy with braces but doesn't have any teeth extracted, will they end up with a recessed maxilla? Or does this only occur if teeth are extracted?

Just trying to figure out how fucked up my maxilla might be because I had braces when I was a teenager (no extractions though).
