Do high cheekbones=long midface

I don’t know why but whenever I see someone with a long/ narrow face shape they almost always tend to have very high set cheekbones like just under the eye. So do high cheekbones elongate your face or make your midface longer?

I’d say it gives the illusion of a longer midface rather than cause actual long midface.
