Doesn't matter actually. According to a dermatologist, there are studies that shows that tretinoin (basicslly your retin-A) penetrates skin even if there is already a moisturizer applied beforehand. However, to minimize irritation, it is suggested to use a moisturizer (then let it dry) beforehand to combat dryness.
