Do normies even know what an incel is?

I was curious as to why incels are so widely hated among normies considering the fact that incel is just short for “involuntary celibate.” You can’t hate somebody for not getting play. I asked some normies I know what an incel was pretending I didn’t know, here are the definitions I got:
“Basically just a sexist man who hates women”
“Men who hate women and are usually like racist”
Neither of these are even true. It’s true about many incels but that really isn’t what an incel is. I don’t hate women and I’m not racist; obviously I’m not an incel anymore because I have a girlfriend (not my oneitis) but I used to be one and I’ve never been sexist OR racist. Normies hate incels and don’t even know what they are.
