Do retainers stunt facial development

It just seems weird how the jaw and face could progress if there is always something there pressing it back. I know it just holds the teeth there but I see mixed results online. I had to stop wearing my retainers for a while after my wisdom teeth removal and I gained 1 inch height and my zygos grew. Lmk if this is all coincidence
