Do rubber bands recess the mandible and maxilla?

My orthodontist prescribed me with rubber bands about 7 weeks ago and i've been hearing that rubber bands pull the maxilla back is this true?

i had a underbite when i was 13 and my orthodontist put me on braces, and i can tell you for a fact that my maxilla is recessed but my mandible looks good, you might have a recessed maxilla unless you have godly genetics

It’s totally depends on how the rubber bands sit and what type of bite problem u have

theyre class three rubber bands so to fix my underbite

originally i had them for moving my overbite backward like 1 and 1/2 years ago and then i swapped orthos and she gave me more elastics to fix my underbite
