you get some from both, some traits are dominant over others but it doesn't always work out that way.

My mom has good bones, but my father is recessed. Luckily I inherit most of my features from my mom, but my brother inherit most of his features from my dad. Over for him
 
Depends on genetic recombination. There are also people who look similar to other family members rather than their mother and father
