I very much dislike thread deletion in general because it doesn’t respect the time and effort spent by authors of high-effort replies.

IMO, mods should opt to do these whenever possible—

• delete individual attachments
• erase (but not delete) posts (not threads) by replacing all their text

—and opt for thread deletion only in extreme circumstances.

Even Reddit works the better way; comments are preserved under deleted posts.

I’m very surprised that you think this is a “valid reason” to delete a whole thread. This is a terrible reason. A thread being necrobumped is a good reason for it to get locked, not deleted.

Even if I wanted total deletion, I’d want the admins to wipe the contents (for example, replace all the text with a dot) of first-posts and keep the replies. No thread deletion.
