We didn't have them in Romania too, back in the communist era, there were no gays here, they came here after the fall of communism. Many were pedophiles too, and Romania became a big sex tourism destination for all sorts of perverts in the 90s, because of the high number of orphans, street children and teens who were corrupted by these sick people.
They also lobbied hard to make homosexuality legal, I saw an interview for example with this British priest and LGBT promoter who under the pretext of spreading the word of Jesus, he secretly formed gay clubs and organizations, recruited people and promoted homosexuality, trans rights,etc. He was very proud of himself and his work and said he had to work stealthy back then, and use religion as a pretext to travel around the country, because if he would have said directly his real purpose was to promote and legalize homosexuality here, people would have reacted very violently.
