There is nothing that says your "self" is persistent even from one moment to the next. Consider that you are always living in the now, only experiencing "your" past and future through memory and expectation. Both memory and expectation exist strictly in the present and have no magical ties to the past or future. As such you could be replaced by a "new self" every moment and you still wouldn't know the difference. You could also exist at a given point in time for eternity, never having been in the past and never arriving in the future, and you likewise would not know the difference.
