i'm older than most members, so i've got enough time to develop the strong impression that reward and punishment are almost like an additional dimension for humans (and all the other species, obv)

so i can't really be joyous about the things i'm good at and beat myself over my shortcomings. there's still some element of freedom in our way of operating (free will deniers are retardedly shortsighted), but developing these meta-conceptions about your "performance" doesn't feel too purposeful
