I think the asymmetry in the canthal tilt appears in people who sleep sideways or on their belly so a side of the face starts to change, sleeping on the back should preserve the symmetry of the face.

You probably turn around during sleep so each side of the face receives the same amount of pressure so the symmetry is preserved. People with asymmetric faces probably sleep on one side more than the other.
