Narcissists have this trait.

Do they actually think it gains them some sort of leverage, or is it purely about the immediate sense of gratification? I know it makes them feel powerful when they think they're controlling the narrative.

Psychopaths tend to lie only for goal oriented purposes.

I’ve known many pathological liars over the years. I hate being around them, it’s always so obvious when they’re lying too.
