so basically hair loss isn't just because of DHT. There are total 7 mechanism on which hair loss happens and DHT are one of em let's see :

WHAT ARE 5AR
5α-Reductases, also known as 3-oxo-5α-steroid 4-dehydrogenases, are enzymes involved in steroid metabolism. They participate in three metabolic pathways: bile acid biosynthesis, androgen and estrogen metabolism. ~ Wiki
Cool stuff right
testosterone → dihydrotestosterone

In very very very simplistic terms, 5AR is the enzyme which converts test to DHT

What are 5ARi's (DHT blockers)
5α-reductase inhibitors including finasteride and dutasteride
These medications inhibit the enzyme 5α-reductase, reducing the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone.

1- Finasteride decreases mean serum level of DHT by 71% after 6 months
2- Dutasteride inhibits 5α-reductase better than finasteride, leading to a more complete reduction in DHT at 24 weeks. A study with 3.5 mg/day for 4 months decreased intraprostatic DHT even further by 99%.
Da looksmaxxers(us) call this the DHT nuker

Why are people using 5ARi's ?

The thing is elevated dihydrotestosterone (DHT) production coming from heightened levels of 5 alpha-reductase kind of is a problem because DHT binds to androgen receptors in hair follicles on the scalp. This heightened androgenic milieu in the scalp contributes to the progressive miniaturization of hair follicles, leading to the characteristic pattern of hair thinning and eventual hair loss.

Im just kidding
Its actually something like this

What's the problem?
The problem is that THIS IS JUST ONE MECHANISM OF HAIRLOSS
One. OUT of 7.Are you hearing me?? 1 OUT of 7?
AND YOU ARE PUTTING ALL YOUR MONEY ON THIS?

Sometimes the answer is pretty simple.
Sometimes its an easy fix
Sometimes its not even dht.
not everything is caused by DHT. not all cause of hairfall is DHT.

This is how big the list is bro.
I dont have any problems with DHT blockers, but why use something when thats not even the root cause of your hairfall

Here’s a check list which i’ve made to see will DHT fix your hairfall

Do note all the data is derived from the study referenced below.
PMID: 27145919
1 - Telogen Effluvium
Mechanism: It is typically associated with an acute insult or sudden change in the body routine fewer than 3 months prior which causes a premature shift into telogen phase. ~ Stress usually
Causes listed in paper: Fever, postpartum period, oral contraceptives, crash dieting, anesthesia exposure, surgery
Is DHT listed as the mechanism? nah
Will 5AR inhibitors fix this? Nah

2 - Nutrition
Mechanism: Deficiency or excess of nutrients required for hair growth or impairing it.
Causes listed: Protein insufficiency, essential fatty acid deficiency (linoleic acid and alpha-linoleic acid), vitamin excess/deficiency (excess vitamin A), zinc deficiency, iron deficiency, selenium excess, heavy metal toxicity, anorexia/bulimia.
Is DHT listed as the mechanism? nah
Will 5AR inhibitors fix this?NAH

3 - Endocrine Imbalances
Mechanism: Hormonal dysregulation affecting follicular growth.
Causes listed: Hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, hypercortisolism, hyperandrogenemia.
Thyroid dysfunction -> 5ARi is not helping lil bro
Hypercortisolism -> 5ARi is not helping lil bro
Hyperandrogenemia -> maaaaaaaaaaybe

Will 5AR inhibitors fix this category? Only in the specific case of androgen-driven pathology.
Not in thyroid or cortisol-related

4 - Drugs
Mechanism: Medication-associated hair loss.
Drugs listed: Anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, statins, antimetabolites, psychotropic agents, anticonvulsants, anticoagulants, antiretrovirals, H2 blockers, laxatives
Is DHT listed as the mechanism? nah
Will 5AR inhibitors fix this? Nah
5 - Infections
Mechanism in paper: Hair loss associated with infection.
Examples listed: Syphilis, fungal infection, EBV, VZV, hepatitis C, HIV, CMV.
Is DHT listed as the mechanism? nah
Will 5AR inhibitors fix this? Nah
Speak to a dermat for this pls
6 - Diseases
Mechanism in paper: Hair loss as a manifestation of disease.
Conditions listed: Hepatic or renal failure, systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, amyloidosis, sarcoidosis, anemia.
Is DHT listed as the mechanism? nah
Will 5AR inhibitors fix this? Nah
These are diseases bro not caused by 5AR
7 - Malignancy
Mechanism in paper: Hair loss associated with malignancy duh.
Conditions listed: Leukemia, systemic lymphoma, mycosis fungoides, histiocytosis.
Is DHT listed as the mechanism? nah
Will 5AR inhibitors fix this? Nah
These are Malignancies bro not caused by 5AR

After looking at all that stuff
If you clear all seven systemic categories WITH BLOODWORK and the shedding still persists, a non-systemic cause such as androgenetic alopecia becomes more probable.

So what this means most of the time ur hairloss isn't because of DHT

dht is the primary driver for male pattern baldness. it's also the most likely to be causing your hair loss so even if there are other factors they are much less likely.

I will in fact take that gamble and stick to the 5a reductase inhibitor

However, very good thread that covers a broad spectrum

It’s gonna be dht most of the time though.

will read later seems interessting
but lets be fr youd need atleast some kind of dht blockade
either locally on scalp or oral
