I think first impression is very important. If you look average but at a fast glance you look good, people's mind will fill in the gaps and flaws and they will remember the perfected version of you in their mind.
I've been thinking about this since everyone started wearing masks. I have a perfected image of everyone under their mask, including myself actually, and it really screwed with how I look at people now.
