Do you think people are generally smarter or dumber then they seem?

I used to think people were generally smarter because of a clinical inferiority complex that made me believe others had a ton of different thoughts behind every action, while I didn’t. Now that I’m older, I would almost say it’s the opposite, since most people seem to just go through the motions completely.
