I would only if applicable, if it's some entry-level retail position then a cover letter seems over-the-top to me.

Copy paste your CV and then the job description into chatgpt and ask for a cover letter. Then just edit it and use or if you're worried about getting caught, rewrite what chatgpt says in your own words
