I noticed my nostrils basically always slightly flare out when I breathe in, unless I’m giga relaxed

But if I walk up stairs, or do some movement, they become noticeably flared and bigger

Apparently it’s not normal and is a sign of a breathing issue
I'm getting a bimax covered by insurance, I'm so recessed it causes breathing issues. Consider if you may need the same?

I’m not recessed
I had a consultation with ramieri a couple of years ago when I believed in surgery

Mine is more like air hunger, that I feel Im not getting enough oxygen

Same, I have very mild asthma it was blamed on but I pressed the issue and it's so mild that they repealed my asthma diagnosis. Now I'm seeing the best OMFS in my region.

It's like your throat is tight right? You're fine but you feel like you're always kind of suffocating and anxious?
Can't say what it is for you if you're not recessed.

I suspect the case is more asthma and now focusing on my breathing
My mum and brother have asthma but I don’t have any symptoms other than shortness of breath
I randomly get shortness of breath going up stairs or going for a piss or something

I'm the same, but albuterol doesn't help my symptoms and it got infinitely worse after my bite was decompensated.

It’s only in the last year or so maybe that I recall getting shortness of breath randomly, or after going up stairs

I did start getting a tight chest and feeling unfit in my later teens when playing football, despite not being fat or that sedentary, and having good stamina before that

This is crazy because I'm literally the same, I had to quit HS sports because of it.

But at the same time I underwent orthodontic work which I recently discovered made my airway narrower. Not sure what it could be in your case, are you sure you're not recessed?

No orthodontics
Not visibly recessed
And ramieri looked at my scans and said I didn’t need jaw surgery either

flared nostrils after you climb stairs = your body trying not to suffocate. the alar muscles open up the nasal valves to drop resistance when you need more air. it's not some sign you're 'subhuman' or whatever. you won't grow a wider nose from it and it won't fix a recessed midface. if you're constantly short of breath maybe check for deviated septum or asthma, but occasional flare is normal.
