The palate expander actually does a pretty good job at mitigating teeth crowding and gives you good width on your maxilla. There are people who get surgery for this stuff later down the line, consider yourself lucky you can get one now while you're still developing.

On the other hand, if it's recessed posteriorly, I don't think the palate expander can do much about that. That would be a reverse pull face mask kind of thing. I would unironically study up on proper tongue posture and fix whatever is causing your mouth breathing if you are a mouth breather.
