Does anything random exist? Is everything just a chemical reaction?

This is kind of hard to understand but does anything random exist. I think free will is the only "random" thing in the universe. Physicscels will be able to answer this

I suppose if you knew the location and physical properties of every single particle and subatomic particle in the universe you could in theory predict everything but I guess whether that allows for randomness is more of a question about what random means

On a random number generator will it actually be a random number or will it just follow some formula or physcial law

Random = your mind doesn't get how it happened, or it can be a multiple number generation.

The entire point of chemistry is that everything is completely random chance 99% of the time lmao

I know the true random number generators use some quantum computing method that is supposedly totally random, but I dont know if that means its random like there is no way that any probability could be ever be determined, or if its just random because we dont understand the process so we cant determine any probablity with our current knowledge. But most random number generators are just a computer algorithm that isnt random

absolutely

quantum mechanics

I'm not gonna get into nitty gritty take calc 2, DE, a year of freshman calc based physics and linear algebra along with group theory if you want to verify it for yourself (yes its not like watching niel degrace faggot)

Is free will the only random thing then?

I dont think that could be classified as random, because if you could in theory know everything about the brain and know all the particles and their properties and all that, you could predict the entire process of the brain. In current experiments they can even predict what someone is going to do just by monitoring the brain in an MRI machine.

Give an example
Literally whenever we do a reaction all we are doing is maximising the chances of a reaction occurring, we do this by giving it all the adequate conditions and supply them the required energy. However their movement is random and it is simply down to chance that the molecules will ever hit, which is why reaction rate graphs tend to take the shape they do, they could very easily never react off all the products involved even if you use the exact amount required.

Also there is the entire topic of entropy which is that things will always tend towards a more chaotic state in which their is more randomness. I mean you can pretty much guarantee that.

Then life is basically like a preset movie like a more complex game of dominos

Isnt it more hard to calculate then "random"

It pretty much seems like it, but its effectively random and unpredictable for us because you can never know all that you would need to know to predict the future. But yes it is essentially preset, you can even determine someone’s chances of making money or being a criminal just by examining 5 or 6 genes.

Its called determinism and its already a well established topic. Philosopher discussed for hundreds of year if we really have a "free" will (the answer is probably no). If you are interested, look up some videos about Kant.

Yeah i feel like randomness is just a blanket term for things that could be calculated but are simply too difficult to calculate super accurately.

Like giving an average person a basketball and telling them to shoot a 3 pointer, there’s technically a perfect trajectory they could throw every time to make the shot, but the amount of force they used and the angle they shoot at is completely random and hard to calculate.

So you think your whole life and action is like a preset game of dominos?
What do you mean by that?

Imagine being so pessimistic

It's not pessimism, it's being realistic.

I didn't choose to like the things I like nor want to do or have the things I want to do or have. They were all determined by my brain chemistry. I had no saying on them

That laplasian mechanical view of the universe was debunked a 100 years ago

That's not true at all

Read above

If you are REALLY lazy watch a video on a double slit experiment

You cannot observe every particle in the universe at the same time which means some wave functions wont be collapsed and remain 100% random

Did I tell my brain to prefer strawberry ice cream over chocolate?? Nope.

All decisions you take are based on what your BRAIN CHEMISTRY wants you to want.

Random means made, done, or happening without method or conscious decision.

Not many things are random especially in nature only human or animalistic acts can be random

universe is probabilistic
computers aren't random
everything has cause and effect
it's all about the available information
to remove the probabilities, you'd have to have more processing power than the universe(you can look at universe as one big calculation)
which may or may not be possible(not for thousands of years)

tldr: at a certain smaller level, certain characteristics cant be observed but only limited to a probabilistic state - hence true randomness (the actual details if u take smt in modern physics are a lot more uninteresting that youd expect jfl).

'true' random num generators r based on supposedly random physical occurences, pseudo-random nums can be generated thru some formulas (but since u backcalculate it w the original input, its not safely random).

eh more like observing causes u to see its state, so the particle is no longer unaffected by u. if u dont observe it (and hence dont affect it), certain characteristics can only be expressed as probability relations of other probability relations, so thats "random" from our perspective.
