Hopefully not , but yeah it's polygenic and some of the genes associated with balding are found on the X chromosome. So you are more likely to bald if male relatives on mother's side are bald.

It seems the moms side is a better predictor usually but there are definitely exceptions. A dad having NW6 or NW7 genes would be hard to overcome also.
