Hey all,

This is my first post on org, so don't flame me for anything I say that may sound stupid.

I've recently come to the conclusion that my maxilla is not ideal, pretty much flat. I've been mouth breathing probably my whole life so that has obviously played a part in that. If I compare my maxilla and infra orbital area to my parents and siblings who have nose breathed all their life, there is quite a significant difference. I wouldn't say its crazily recessed but I can tell that due to poor habits it has formed this way. I also have a history of sinus issues and allergies which have prevented me breathing through my nose especially at night. I have started mewing and chewing on my premolars.

What do I do, I'm thinking about going to the doctor or orthodontist to ask what I could do to fix this. Do headgears or mouthguards really work? I don't really want to the marpe or mse or anything that involves drilling into my palate or surgery. Help would be appreciated.

Orthodontic appliances like herbst or twin block can enhance ccw rotation and chin projection, only if you're at the right age and appropriate growth phase.

Btw expanders such as marpe have nothing do with mandibular development, they are used for narrow palates

Make sure to mark this post as solution, just click the check mark on my right

how old are you, mouthguards/headgears are best for minors (less than 16 years of age basically)

If I have health insurance and possibly get referred by a doctor, would it cost?
