if you have the same amount of fat on your body (fat mass) and increase your muscle mass, your body fat percentage will decrease even though u haven’t lost fat mass. will this change ur face fat?

There is a reason people say reach x% body fat and not x kg body fat for your particular height, etc.

it won't change your face fat, you will need to lose fat to get leaner face %bf is just heuristic

Yes, it will.

The body is constantly metabolising fat and muscle for energy, as well as synthesising new muscle and storing fat. It's the net balance of these processes that affects your change in overall weight, bodyfat, and muscularity.

If you increase the size of your muscles, there is now more surface area that needs to be covered by fat. So if you gain much more muscle than fat, thus reducing bodyfat percentage, your fat is (in practice) redistributed as more of your total fat will be used to cover the bigger areas, leaving less to be stored in the face / you will look leaner all over.

With that said, packing on more muscle by bulking (even lean bulking) generally comes with more fat (in the absolute sense) so you are unlikely to become significantly leaner just by adding muscle, so a fat loss phase is probably required.

Honestly if you are gaining muscle and bodyfat percentage is staying the same, then you are doing well.
