Side effects are very rare, the vast majority of "side effects" are nocebo and people who have tons of bad habits blaming finasteride for finally giving them ED in their 40s.

There is still some risk, but if you're young and healthy it's worth it to help prevent further hair loss IMO. Before starting, I would recommend "listening" to your body, feeling every small ache, pain etc, and you will most likely find there's a lot of "background" pains that your body blocks out. Sometimes people only do this after taking medication, so think that every bad thing they feel now is related to it, but they didn't have a baseline to compare to before.

When it comes to safety of others, be aware to not let pregnant women handle it, children or teens going through puberty, DHT is still important during development, it just becomes a mostly bad hormone after reaching adulthood.

As for it's effectiveness, it unfortunately depends a lot on the person, how early they started, how sensitive their hair follicles are to androgens, etc. Most of the time it won't cause you to regrow a hairline, usually online you will see two kinds of posts online, ones where the user turned into a quesadilla, and others where they regrew an Edgar hairline. The most likely scenario is that it will just slow your hairloss, possibly stopping it completely.

Using myself as an example, I started on finasteride for a few months before switching over to Dutasteride, due to it's higher potency and Norwood 7s running in the family. However, despite dutatsteride being lot more powerful than finasteride, it seems to have only thickened up the hair slightly and slowed down the hairloss, but has had very little effect on the hairline.

TL;DR:
Finasteride and dutasteride are the only effective ways of preventing further progression androgenic alopecia as of early 2026 and sides are very unlikely but still possible.

finasteride and cope in the same sentence

If your worried about side effects like a pussy just don't even bother taking it and enjoy losing your hair. But if your considering it take dut its mogs fin to oblivion
