I’ve grown up Catholic my whole life and I’m really doubting the existence of a higher being let alone an all loving god

i feel like religon is a way to control the masses
I mean you’re not answering my question but I could see why you think so in a respectful manner

this isn't really an argument against God so much as it is against organized religion though

And why would god choose to remain hidden and only “reveal” himself through a 2000 year old book
Through books* they weren’t all constructed together to make the New Testament, it took the Catholic Church longer so it wouldn’t be 2000 years

Anyways that wasn’t your question my answer to your is for human salvation, God had reasons for that specific time that we don’t fully know though

Although I myself am not Christian, I don't think it's absurd to believe in God. In my opinion, an all-loving God is perfectly reconcilable given the Christian framework. Though I am skeptical of Christianity specifically, I do think a God can exist.

But why would God even create the system to where we need salvation?

If he is truly all knowing and beyond time, he already knows all of the sins we commit. We were created with God knowing if we would go to Heaven or Hell. Is it not cruel to bring us into the existence already knowing that we would be in hell?

What I’m trying to say is that there is no reason for God needing to go through this long process of salvation when he could do it instantly.

We can never know whether or not god exists

Well Jesus’ coming was also so we didn’t have to kill lamb to repent for our sins and just have to repent and confess our sins to himself

And also don’t you think it would be cruel if we were stripped the gift of life all because God knows that we were going to spend eternal separation from him. The whole concept of hell has no meaning then. Also as a thomist I believe there is also levels to hell but again it would be pointless if God only gifted humans with life who would life their lives for him and hence go to heaven.

Also there would be no separate degree of good from bad if there was no bad, all evil isn’t always moral evil. In the bible it states God also creates some evil and allows some evil but for the greater good, as we know God is good.

I believe that some evil is necessary to build character in a person.

But why would God even create a system where we need to kill a lamb? Couldn’t he just forgive us if he is so powerful and loving?

There is too much evil in the world to call God an all loving god in my opinion, especially if he already knew all of the evil that would happen in the world

Too much evil such as? I’m not saying there’s not I fully agree with you but I just want to hear what type you’re thinking of

Also it’s kind of hard for me to answer all types of in depth questions like this one that you used saying why did God create a system where you have to kill a lamb, honestly I don’t know but I will look into it now because I’m not comfortable with not knowing

Anywho my point is that as humans we shouldn’t have to question everything God does, because he is far more intelligent than us. A way I like to think of it is it’s like having a math teacher, you understand when he teaches you addition, stuff like 2+2=4 and stuff but then all of a sudden he brings in subtraction, something that you’ve never seen before and know nothing of. Obviously you don’t critique your teachers lessons and doings on the topic of subtraction just because you don’t understand it and therefore it must be wrong or evil, but rather you know that he is smarter than you when it comes to math and hence you put your trust into him and believe he knows what he’s doing.

Pretty sweet analogy :feelsautistic:

The type of evil I’m referring to is mostly the evil that is inflicted on people that don’t deserve it, such as babies that die of cancer. They did no wrong and there is no way they could have sinned to deserve such a thing. It’s just meaningless suffering.

I'm agnostic but if you do believe in God why does anything on earth matter as long as your saved? I know the bible says "make disciples of many nations" but you cant do much to convince another person that's between them and God, also I feel if he does exist he pre supposed where some people are born and where they live witch heavily influences if they get "saved" or not witch seems pretty unfair.

Well yes the suffering is genuine evil, and God is not the author of evil, but God allowing evil and God’s willing evil for its own sake are not the same. God may permit some evils for reasons connected to goods that we cannot fully comprehend, I could give you an example that’s in the bible if you want. The existence of that baby’s suffering does not logically demonstrate that there is not an omnipotent and all good God cannot exist. To make that contradiction you would have to prove that God could have had no sufficient reason to allow that baby’s suffering. Thomistic views hold the ideal that earthly life is not the total end of a human being, since our ultimate fufillment is in God.
