It will but it has less of an effect after 15 to 16, and it takes up to months and even years depending on the width of your Mandibular arch

Try a palate expander, it costs plenty of money though. Less significant results during adulthood, but still way more than just chewing gum.

15 to 16 is when the maxilla starts to fuse with the temporal bone of the cranium, causing the massater muscles to stay more in place causing less growth.
