Accutane (isotretinoin) is a strong form of vitamin A, and there have been case reports and studies showing it can sometimes speed up premature closure of growth plates (the epiphyseal plates in bones). Here’s how it might happen:

  • Retinoic acid effect on bone cells: Accutane is related to retinoic acid, which regulates cell growth and differentiation. In bones, high levels can push growth plate cartilage cells (chondrocytes) to mature and turn into bone sooner than normal. Once the cartilage is replaced by bone, the plate is closed, and growth stops.
  • Interference with growth hormone/IGF-1 signaling: Some research suggests retinoids can dampen IGF-1 activity, which is one of the main hormones that keeps growth plates active and open during adolescence.
  • Bone remodeling changes: Retinoids can increase bone resorption and remodeling activity, altering the balance between new bone being formed and old bone being broken down. Over time, this can speed up skeletal maturation.
  • Dose and age sensitivity: The risk is higher in adolescents who still have open growth plates, especially if they’re on higher or long-term doses. In adults with closed plates, this isn’t an issue.

IMO the impacts of BEING on accutane and the changes in your behavior from the drug probably are going to stunt ur growth more than the actual vitamin A

No one thinks vitamin A stunts growth
