i know marpe basically splits your maxilla in half, and widens it. is there any forward growth as a side effect?
and also what are the diff types of marpe and which are the best?

yeah i just made a post about it with another device

marpe will give you 2-4 mm protraction depending on how much you expand

facemask could work too but you'd have to use it over months and its 2 much of a hassle

the only devices you should consider is custom MARPE or FME, both pretty much the same tbh

Yes. Get it custom made if you can’t get an FME and use a facemask or a protraction device depending on your bite class.

a facemask only repositions the maxilla right so i shouldnt need braces afterward right?

you'll need braces no matter what because if you have narrow palate that means your teeths are crowded and it would need to be lined up properly with braces after the expansion (I am assuming you have narrow palate since you are mentioning palate expander.)

if you want a forward growth its morely recommended to get mse which puts the full force directly to the bone instead of letting it travel through your teeth. Best option would be mse and pair it with mse supported head gear, and just be sure it doesnt has chinrest if you dont want cw rotation and your mandible to push back little bit. A model for headgear can be mse supported crane headgear, has infinitely better and more stable foundation than normal headgear since its on your neck
