It for sure does help, but its more of a temporary thing, now my resting position for my tongue is in the mewing 'formation' but, if you are sick and mouth breathe for a week due to a blocked nose, you will see a change and lose some process from mewing which has happened in my case before.

Short answer: Yes it works, but its more a of a temporary thing.
