does note taking really help you when studying?

i feel like it subdues the act of understanding and you write it down as procrastination to read later, noting everything down is crappy idea but I see everyone does it. your hard drive isn't your notebook it is your brain.f and when you slack off on focusing reading your own notes is so boring when it isn't "fresh" and it is sooo much easier to learn from a book which has everything in it. inefficient note taking is a time killer
