Does painting hair to brown from black damages them hard?

My hair is wavy, i am feared to paint it because i think it might lose it and become straight and lose structure or sum shit.
Does somewhere painted their hair to brown from black? What are the underwater rocks.

I never dyed my hair but afaik black is not really a harmful color for your hair unlike blonde or any light color really.

But as always ask a professional hair stylist to do that, don't do it yourself.
