Does palatal expansion cause sagital maxillary change?

Would a palate expander only cause transverse improvement or sagital improvement also either directly or indirectly

a palate expander widens the upper jaw and any forward change is minimal and indirect

Okay because I'm receiving it from the orthodontist after having issues after premolar extractions and braces/rubber bands. What do u think? You think I need it or something more?
