Does Retin A make the sebacous glands smaller and produce less oil/stop it?

Or does isotretinoin (accutane) only have that ability, like if you want to remove acne from the source how is Retin a going ot help when you can only permanently or some what from accutane or am I missing something, people recommend as an alternative why is that?
 
tretinoin doesnt stop oil production or make pores smaller, only accutane does that
