I've been in ortho treatment for a while and I actually switched orthos because my previous one was bad.
I've talked to this one about my concerns and he knows I care more about aesthetics he's identified that my lower third is a bit narrow and fixing my bite will help a bit with that.
My mandible is a few mm recessed and I've consulted with an oral surgeon that works with my ortho. I initially went to discuss extractions of wisdom teeth and contrary to what you'd assume from these doctors he advised me to not get anything removed and I could fix my recessed mandible through orthodontics and elastics.
I've talked to my ortho about the concerns of my maxilla potentially getting recessed from what I've seen online and he said that it can happen but only if the elastics are too strong, he said that the ones that he gave me wont cause that because the force isn't enough to cause that.
I'd appreciate thoughts because I don't really want to wear them in fear that I'll be recessed in my maxilla just for a few mm or mandible forward growth. He seems like a genuine ortho so I don't really know what to think.
TLDR: Scared to use overbite elastics because I've seen that it can recess maxilla but my ortho acknowledges it's possible and just says the ones he gave me can't apply enough force to recess
