I want to preface this thread by saying I’m fully aware this isn’t a method, this is just a philosophical discussion. This is purely about philosophy.

Last week, I checked out an Orthodox church pretty much every day, going to multiple services, sometimes two or three a day.

It got to the point where when I went to the gym or went home and looked in the mirror, my eyes actually looked like they were glowing. I’m not even exaggerating. I didn’t take any photos, which I know sounds convenient, but I genuinely remember thinking my eyes looked different, like they had some kind of glow.

Over the past few days, I haven’t been going to church, although I am planning to go tomorrow. During that time, I fell into sexual temptation, and when I looked at myself again, it felt like that glow in my eyes had disappeared.

It’s strange because I genuinely believe that as you become more spiritual, your body can reflect that. I know a lot of people will see this as coping, and that’s fair, but I do think there’s some kind of connection between spirituality and the body.

It’s similar to the idea that just thinking about growth won’t physically make you grow, but at the same time, I feel like there is some real effect. When I fast or abstain from lust, I feel physically stronger, like even my bones feel stronger.

This could just be a coincidence or even a placebo, but it also makes me wonder if this is something that church fathers or saints have known for years, and that modern society just overlooks because it has become so detached from religion.

You could say placebo

but when you actually experience it yourself, it's different. There's a different glow, and there's a different attitude, and I know that already. This is water, if you're a Christian or religious, that if you are praying throughout the start of the day, if you are constantly reading the Bible,

and there is more studies on this, which I can link if you're interested, that, you know, once you do get closer spiritually, but I feel like there is also an effect on your body. It sounds stupid, and it almost sounds like I'm grey by saying this, but I do believe that there is definitely some sort of change.

In Islam, believers who are on the truth have Noor (light) upon their faces

spiritual awakenings often result in increasing inner light by mitigating downstream effects of your traumas. because this effect isnt specific to any one religion, we always get so many people out here saying 'no MY cope ass religion is actually the REAL one 🥷'

theres a reason why religious revivals almost always happen after a major population stressor like disease or war

I'm open to having a discussion about all religions in here, talking about when they do get closer with God, what their experiences are like, because I've had this conversation before, but I feel physically stronger, not even in like a mindset way. I think my bones and my actual upper body is stronger when I follow God, and like, this can't be just placebo. If you do, you'd have to follow God and tell me if you feel a difference, because I personally do.

It definitely helps, I believe it.

Hard to explain why.

na its not stupid
Obviously there's no direct supernatural effort making your feel this way
but your brain and belief is extremely powerful

It was done among 100,000 people, it's not specified if they were Christians, but at least 40,000 of those people were in the United States.

People described that loneliness dropped by 30%, anger was reduced by 32%, bitterness dropped by 40%, spiritual stagnation fell by 60%, and even depression and anxiety was reduced.

Call it placebo, but as someone at a rehab room would say, that's the way you might see it, you might see it as placebo, but the evidence says otherwise.

You may think your body is stronger, but the machines not gonna lie. It is possible you did infact get stronger because your CNS is less clouded

I understand, but still, Its not supernatural powers, its a placebo. I don't think most realize how powerful the human mind is when they want to firmly believe something. Your mind quite literally shapes your perception reality. Look at the members of this forum for example.
Its still not quite understood how the placebo works, but its a combination of endorphins and dopamine, which will lead you to chasing whatever it is that gives off that feeling. Its not the power of the bible/god which is giving you strength, its your belief.

Even for many Olympic/professional athletes, studies show its their belief in their capabilities, which give them the fuel they need

it's your choice, but if it's Christianity, all I can do is pray and ask that you come to church at least once a week. And if you're not, I pray that you do end up going to a local church just to check out the culture, not for spiritual or religious reasons. If you're not a Christian, I'd recommend you checking out a local church, but on the other hand, if you are, I'd recommend just trying to be slow with it. But, yeah.
