Domestic Violence is still legal in many countries

Once upon a time DV was legal in America. 100ish years ago. The government viewed it as a private matter and the government had no right to dictate how a man should run his home and his marriage. Fast forward to now where even looking at a woman wrong can get you arrested.

Some countries still subscribe to this old model though. Russia has a watered down version of it:

In 2017, lawmakers decriminalized first-time domestic violence offenses that do not cause serious injury. Such cases are treated as administrative infractions rather than criminal acts—drastically reducing penalties and discouraging reporting

In Iran they don't give a fuck:

Cultural and legal frameworks still position the husband in a dominant role, and domestic abuse—even if severe—is frequently not legally punished, or is inadequately addressed within the judicial system

What do you think about this? Should men be allowed to hit their wives to get them to behave? Or is it wrong?

I don't think it's effective besides stress relief for a pissed husband I doubt it seriously deters anybody just like the death penalty.
