It's not a lack of self-awareness if you had girls give ioi as a joke or give genuine ioi I've had both happen to me. Because the realization is if you're not out rightly attractive to certain girls they will discard you as ugly even if they don't think you are repulsive but some girls might like the things others don't. For example a nice trimmed beard some girls hate beards and other girls get wet to a nice beard.
