Here's the thing. For you to actually look good when a photo is taken of you (As good as you look irl) the photo needs to be done at the level of SIGHT or somewhat mimick it/ be done as a selfie so you can see yourself and position your face well.
When your friends take your pic, or any person who isnt fully professional they are gonna be unable to adjust this properly, making it so most of the time unless you are 10/10 chad you will look shit.
Example: I have a neutral to positive canthal tilt. However in a few pictures taken at graduation I seem to have a comically negative tilt. How is that I wondered.
And then I remembered the supposed "pro" taking our pics had his camera set in a way that it was way below eye leve, making it so everyone who didn't have 10/10 blue hunter eyes look as if they had a negative tilt. I also tested this with other people in my year and found the same to be true.
Moral of the story: don't trust others to take ur pic
