Don't use NSAIDs (painkillers) shortly before or after the workout, if it's not necessary.

We're constantly talking about drugs and supplements to take, but rarely about those we should abstain from in certain contexts.

What are NSAIDs?

NSAIDs stands for nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. We can divide painkillers into two groups: opioid and non-opioid drugs. The second group consists of NSAIDs, paracetamol, metamizole and nefopam. You should abstain from using all NSAIDs if you are trying to maximize your muscle gains. If you are dealing with severe DOMS - delayed onset muscle soreness or small injuries and you need to take a painkiller - aim for the smallest, recommended doses of paracetamol first and if you must use NSAIDs, choose acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) in doses not exceeding 1.5-3 g per day, but to be on a safer side, use the lowest dose that gives you a necessary relief (favorably under 1.5 g per day).

Why?
NSAIDs inhibit MPS (muscle protein synthesis) and in certain people can lead to even ~50% decrease in muscle gains.

DISCLAIMER: It's not a medical advice. You should always consult your doctor before taking any medications as your actual health condition and genetic make-up might lead to different, unfavorable outcomes when using those medications.

Lots of lifters use tylenol instead, usually before a hard session. Aspirin is also popular among gear users since it prevents clots

Yeah, but doses that aim to prevent clotting the coronary arteries are much smaller (75-150 mg per day). Only in such small doses the main mechanism is inhibition of COX-1 in thrombocytes.
