You have to act fast when you are the "new kid". First impressions matter a lot.
The first week or so of being new will decide for the rest of time your social status in that environment.
Didn't talk to anybody because you're shy? Well now you are forever the invisible kid.
Sperged out over something petty? You are going to be the weirdo dork everyone trolls and bullies forevermore.
Once it has been decided what role you play, it will become near impossible to shake that role in this environment again.
The cool popular kid can do or say something incredibly embarrassing, his social status will dip temporarily, but then default back to "cool popular kid" after a couple days. The inverse is true as well, the weirdo loser kid can do something amazing, but it will only temporarily lift his social status.
So when you are the "new kid", make sure you don't lock yourself into a shitty social status within that environment.
