After Khamenei's killing, intense protest demonstrations took place in Pakistan's city of Karachi. Protesters entered the US Consulate, caused destruction, and attempted to set the consulate on fire, prompting U.S. Marine Security Guards to open fire to regain control killing around 23 people and injuring around 100.

Pakistani government heavily criticized the harsh actions taken but American embassy blamed the government for being incompetent and unable to control the situation and issued a warning about further escalations with sharp rise of unstability and insurgency in Pakistan after the declaration of an Open war with Afghanistan.
