The disease was identified in Germany and its discoverers would have pronounced it "ow-tism" not "awe-tism".
Nobody pronounces Auschwitz as "awe-schwitz". It's "ow-schwitz".
Ow-tism sounds much more high class and dominant. Accuse someone of "ow-tism" and their self esteem plummets.
Accuse someone of "awe-tism" and you just sound like another cringeworthy midde aged western woman with a bob cut.
