hi, 26yr old male here. I have androgenetic alopecia and have been on finasteride for 6+ months and also been using Minoxidil on my beard for about 1y 6months.

I need to keep a beard becuz of my very narrow jaw so that I can kind of make my lower thirds slightly wider with a beard. My beard is not so thick so Im still using minox on it and I also want to hop on Dut but from many reddit posts I know that Dut will definitely thin down my beard as theres a decent amount of my hairs that are not fully terminal. I know Dutasteride is good for the skin too. Iv seen Clav recommending it to almost everyone as well.

So what do I do about this? Want my hairline to recover as much as possible and I know dut will be the best for it. PS RU-58841 is way too expensive for me to get it in my country.

Dut doesn’t really thin down beard but it will slow down it’s development (if it’s still developing at your age for some reason) and it makes it growth slower in theory but im 21 and it didn’t get any slower for me. You can try oral min for beard, i didn’t really experience improvements with it but my lashes and eyebrows darkened from oral minoxidil so if you are a good responder your beard could improve a lot aswell

Im thinking since I have a decent amount of beard hairs that are still transitioning to a terminal hair(vellus), when DHT gets nuked on the skin, it wont be able to transition fully to a terminal hair fast enough. Might take years instead of months. As far as I know DHT turns vellus hairs into terminal hairs.

My beard is still developing slowing cuz i didnt have good beard genetics. Minox really made it possible for me to call whatever I have on my face a ‘beard’.

Use minoxidil on your beard or switch to ru for hairloss

iv seen some people talk about serious side effects on RU although it is very rare. As it is only a research chemical, insurance wont cover me in case anything bad happens. And my beard is alr on minox for 1y6months

Dut affecting beard growth is kinda bro-science. Minoxidil 5% twice daily + Derma rolling 0.5mm 2-6 per week should give you the results you want even if we assume Dut "nerfs" beard growth

Derma rolling synergizes with minox very well

Yea most of the people are really speculating about it tbh. Might turn out to be true tho. I think derma rolling isnt that good for the long term even if it has strong evidence. Has a chance of creating more problems of the skin-influenced by Haircafe on youtube.

Not sure how aggressive is your hairloss but unless you are on test or some serious anabolic steroids like tren you won’t necessarily need daily dut for life.

Clav is an extreme example of pharmacology usage but keep in mind that he says all these because his test levels are 5 times more than what’s naturally possible, so does his DHT would be since it’s coming from test. He is right about the effects of DHT on people with high androgenic responsiveness but this doesn’t mean you need 2.5mg of dutasteride.

Looking at that you are 26, likely your hair loss isn’t that aggressive as someone who has it since the age of 17 like me. 6 months of finasteride is really early to judge, you could very likely (80%) stabelize in the next 12 months and recover mid scalp and crown if you lost density there.

Not sure what your goal is but the problem is that your hairline is not recoverable even with dut, only hair transplant can do that. What’s possible to achieve (sometimes with finasteride more likely with dutasteride) is that you can reverse the miniturization of your follicles, meaning your existing DHT damaged smaller and thinner hairs could become full hairs again. If you post a pic of your hair it could be easier to help but that’s pretty much what you can expect, you won’t lower your hairline just make the existing one denser and reverse miniturization.

I’ve been on fin for 2 years so since the age of 19 and my current plan is to slowly taper into daily dutasteride. I’ve been on fin for 2 years i slowed down my hairloss by 90%. I plan to take daily dut for 12 months which pretty much gets you full effects on reversing miniturization. From there i’ll be slowly tapering off to 4x a week dut and if i’m stable on that after like 3-4 months to 3x 0.5mg dut which should still be above daily fin levels.

To be clear i dont want to hop on dut cuz i dont see results on fin. Its more becuz Iv seen from studies that the amount of regrowth on the hairline is significantly greater on dut than fin. Also 2.5mg dut decreases about 80%+ dht on scalp which is huge. Also it has good anti aging properties like slowing down the reduction of collagen as we age. Also good for hormonal acne.
Its just a superior drug imo.
If i did not need a beard for my subhuman lower third i wouldve hopped on dut right away. And also the faster I act the higher the chances of saving some hair on the hairline. But need more time for the beard to thicken otherwise i look chopped with a thin beard😭😭.

0.5 mg of dutasteride daily nuke my facial hair so much and made my face a bit more feminine I've been one it for a year the before was one year ago in late 2024 idk if you guys are going be believe me but its true I was a 80kg gymcel and the second pic is me 2 months ago and I don't shave anyone like before

Damn this iis kinda discouraging. Were you using minox on your beard before? I can grow an okay beard. Now i haveto choose between being bald and having a 16 yr old face😭😭
