I use to think the same also but edging is only good for bigger loads. When you’re edging, you are constantly kegeling. And if you’re over kegeling for hours on end, you can develop hypertonic pelvic in which you are constantly in a state of contraction. The bulbospongiosus muscle can get overworked and stay in a contracted state. This muscle surrounds the corpus spongiosum ( "CS" underside of the penis and penis head). When hyperactive, this muscle cuts off blood flow to the CS and prevents engorgement leading to soft glans syndrome and partial ED.

Thanks, I've seen people recommend edging no longer than 20-30 minutes a day. But it can vary from person to person in my opinion so I can't really answer that question. I think that if people edge/ goon then they should do reverse kegels to balance it out.
