This shift seemed to take off among certain German Philosophers like Hartmann, Mainlander etc claimed that any being with sufficient rationality would conclude non existence is preferable to existence. Humanity won't destroy itself on accident, it won't be like how someone might slip and fall and bash their head open and die. No the claim is much more radical and depressing, humanity's suicide will be very much intentional. There claim is that any being which is smart enough will try to end their existence. Philip Mainlander literally believed God killed himself.
