I read a few articles on his theories of the unconscious, holy fucking shit bro:lul::lul::lul::lul:

Genuinely hearing about what some of these german niggas were writing about makes me wonder what kind of insane trauma they went through to have such a depressing outlook on life. Like I would say I have a negative view on most things but these dudes were in too deep ngl:forcedsmile::forcedsmile::forcedsmile:

It could be that german writers and philosophers were in over their heads with the technological and societal development. They thought that god was dead and thus man has no reason for existence

Schopenhauer transformed human suffering from being about accidental inconveniences to being a fundamental part of reality. Essentially annihilating any hope for a good reality. This shift seemed to take off among certain German Philosophers like Hartmann, Mainlander etc claimed that any being with sufficient rationality would conclude non existence is preferable to existence. Essentially as humans become more advanced we will eventually commit suicide from the knowledge we gain.

Their thoughts have some merit. We will commit suicide from the knowledge we gain in the form of advanced warfare, be it nuclear, biological, conventional, psychological or some other. Aside from war there is AI, climate change, enviromental destruction, overpopulation and other factors to destroy us.

It is still impossible for any natural being to live a life of pure bliss and pleasure. Pain is an essential part of all life. Society amplifies pain due to what society creates for this world. The bigger the society, the greater the suffering. Remove god and there is no hope.

What are your thoughts on this?

This is a reasonable position, but the claims of Hartmann, Mainlander etc are even more radical. Humanity won't destroy itself on accident, it won't be like how someone might slip and fall and bash their head open and die. No the claim is much more radical and depressing, humanity's suicide will be very much intentional. There claim is that any being which is smart enough will try to end their existence. Philip Mainlander literally believed God killed himself.

This reminds me of one tiktok I watched

yea it's interesting how that works though. In theory as we get more advanced we should be getting happier and yet it seems like the opposite is happening. I don't think there will ever be such thing as humans achieving paradise on earth, it definitely won't happen through technology. Even in an ideal state I would think there would still be an emptiness within people.

19th century german philosophy seems to be the inspiration for Johan Liebert's world view

What would paradise even look like? To each person it would look different, no matter how similar two people are. It is impossible to accomadate the perfect world of every person.

Has Mainlander's main work been translated yet? The closest I could get some years ago was a redditor who was translating early sections criticizing Schopenhauer and Kant.

Generally speaking an ideal state would be considered the state which minimizes suffering

It would be kinda funny if reincarnation was real, imagine Mainlander finally thinking hes going to recede back into the sweet peace of non existence just for him to get reincarnated into some slum in Bangladesh:lul:
